7 Perfect Part-Time Jobs for Students Over the Holidays

Winter break is the perfect time for students to get a part-time gig. Check out these fun job opportunities to make some quick cash over the holidays!

Calling all high school and college students: It's not too late to get a holiday gig! The winter holidays are the perfect time to search for a part-time job as many places look for short-term holiday season workers. From retailers and pop-up boutiques to restaurants and sharing economy jobs, there are plenty of opportunities to earn some extra money. Check sites like SnagAJob.com to find seasonal opportunities with retailers in your area. Here are just a few fun ideas!

1. Play with animals

Do you love animals? Try pet sitting or dog walking in your spare time! It's easy to make your own schedule and pick up gigs when you have the time. You could earn up to $1,000 a month by spending quality time with a furry friend through services like Rover.com

2. Tutor in your free time

Tutoring is a great way to make money and help your fellow students, especially if you're proficient in a particular subject. You can find online tutoring opportunities at Tutor.com, which is a service offered by The Princeton Review. Their service is available 24/7, and you can create a schedule that works best for you, working as few as five hours a week to nearly full-time.

3. Promote a favorite brand

Major companies have been known to hire students to promote their brands on college campuses. This may be especially appealing to aspiring influencers or students interested in pursuing marketing as a career. Check out websites like IZEA to see how you could earn money and rewards as a brand ambassador.

4. Become a rideshare driver

If you have a license and are a good driver, this could be the perfect part-time job for you. Shuttle other students for Uber or Lyft, run deliveries for takeout services like UberEats and DoorDash, or deliver groceries via Shipt. You can even pick up and deliver dry cleaning through Rinse.com.

5. Pick up a serving or hosting job

It's very common for restaurants to beef up their staff during the busy holiday rush with people flocking to eateries after long days of holiday shopping. Look at places near busy shopping centers and malls for the best opportunities.

6. Practice your childcare skills

Parents are usually in need of extra babysitting services during the busy holiday season, whether to get away for an afternoon of shopping, attend a kid-free holiday party, or pick up an extra shift at work. You can find jobs through sites like Care.com and make around $15 per hour on average.

7. Dress up like Santa Claus

Now, maybe you don't think you can channel Santa, but this isn't the only role available during the holidays. You can also be one of Santa's elf helpers! Sites like Indeed.com can help you find Santa impersonator roles and other holiday acting opportunities in your area, paying anywhere from $12–$50 per hour.

This whole website has helped me overcome the attitude I had before. I was scared to even approach the thought of college because it was so much. I knew it wasn’t just a few easy steps, and I panicked mostly, instead of actually trying. Without realizing it, CollegeXpress did exactly what I usually do when I panic, which is take it one step at a time. With college I forget that because it’s more than just a small to-do list, but this website was really helpful and overall amazing. So thank you!

CollegeXpress helped me overcome a huge hurdle. Because of the small town I live in, I felt like I would never achieve more. I felt like I could never go beyond because of costs. I feared I wouldn’t be able to find scholarships. I had no idea of where to start. With CollegeXpress, I easily found scholarships—they came to me. It was a helper, and I was instantly matched with opportunities to go above and beyond educationally.

CollegeXpress helped me find the school I am currently attending by consistently sending me emails of other schools. This allowed me to do research on other schools as well as the one I am in now!

I'm a senior in high school, and CollegeXpress has helped me in so many ways this year in trying to navigate the process of deciding and committing to a university. The COVID-19 Student Resource Center has helped me many times with the most up-to-date and accurate information, along with financial aid and student life [advice]. During these uncertain times, CollegeXpress has been a great recourse to relieve the stress as a senior. Along with the COVID-19 Student Resource Center, I'm constantly using the extremely helpful tools off the site to aid me during this stressful process. Tools like the lists and rankings of universities have been the most beneficial. I've also used the site to receive expert advice on topics like financial aid. Finally, CollegeXpress has helped me easily apply for several scholarships. I'm thankful to be given the chance to win a scholarship to lessen the burden of my college debt.

My high school counselor introduced me to CollegeXpress freshman year. It has made such a difference in high school, and I plan to continue relying on it in college. CollegeXpress is my go-to because it addresses each aspect of being a student. There are the articles you’d expect regarding college applications and financial aid, but you will also find advice on things like de-stressing and maintaining relationships while balancing a heavy course load. CollegeXpress will also keep you updated on current scholarships through e-mails each Saturday. (They don’t harass you with any product promotion like so many other sites do.) CollegeXpress is a lot like an older sibling who has already conquered the challenges you are facing. Now, they are reaching out a helpful hand. I say take it.
